Little Deatails Can Make a Big Difference!

Its all in the details!  Extra clothing

If it is one thing a Primary Guide knows, it is that three year olds have accidents!!!  Any program I have been to asks that parents supply a complete spare change of clothing for their child.  I take this one small step further.

Ask your parents on Back to School Night to supply two complete changes in a Rubbermaid shoe box with their child's name written on the sides.  The next step is the biggie!!  Keep a small stack of slips of paper in the box with the clothes that says:

Your child's clothing box needs: ____Shirt  _____Shorts  ____Underwear ____Socks

Check off the items that need to be replaced and staple the slip to the bag of soiled clothing that goes home to be washed.  Believe me, parents DO NOT replace the clothing unless they are reminded, and what teacher has time to go through all of the clothing boxes to see who needs clothing???

Seasons!  Send an email home when the weather starts to cool down requesting parents send a pair of pants and a long sleeved shirt.  Once you get the cold weather clothes, send home the warm weather clothes.  One year I just sent the warm weather clothes home with a note to provide pants and long sleeves, and only half the parents did!!  Then I had problems with wet kiddos and no clothes.  Please learn from my mistake!  :)

School Supplies

This will vary greatly from school to school, public to private.  But there are a few things that remain the same, parents will have to supply some items like nap blankets (if your environment provides nap) those extra pairs of clothing, and possibly a few supplies.  You can provide a list of items to the parents or get a little more techy....a blog!   One blog post about school supplies posted over the summer, and parents are ready for the fall with shopping done!  The office can provide the blog address to the families and you are ready to go.  www.msmegsclass.blogspot.com was my blog for the last four years I was in the classroom.  The supply list was my last post.

The Blog...

Starting a once a month blog is a GREAT way to keep parents informed about what the children are interested in, working on, going to study as a group, or to advertise school events.  It is a piece of communication with parents that is easy!  Include some pictures, parents love that!
